Le Cesarine

An adventure of nature, ancient art and authentic Sicilian flavours

San Giuseppe Jato / Sicilia

La Cesarina

"Tiny within the immensity of the wheat plain, overlooking the beautiful lake with crystalline water and the flourishing land dotted with cultivated fields and rich pastures". With this poetic portrayal, Giuseppe Tomasi of Lampedusa, in his book "Il Gattopardo", described Argivocale, the village in which we will meet Cesarina Rosa.

Located in the County of Monreale, Argivocale is the center of Sicily's breadbasket. Here, in a charming cottage, Rosa offers an authentic culinary Experience based on simple and traditional peasant dishes, to enjoy while immersed within a landscape of green prairies and crops that extend to the foot of Mount Jato, creating a kaleidoscope of colors. Our Cesarina will lead us to the rediscovery of typical Sicilian dishes created with excellent ingredients that originate exclusively from her agricultural-livestock family-owned farm.

The secret of the Cesarina
The ingredients for my dishes originate from the agricultural-livestock farm that I manage with my family.

  • A Cheese platter with various jams (spicy Belice; aged sheep's cheese, sheep's cheese with pistacchios, seasoned sheep's cheese), Caprese soft sheep's cheese, crushed green olives with Sicilian seasonings and petite focaccias with fresh sheep's milk ricotta
  • Pasta 'alla Norma' with salted sheep's milk ricotta
  • Mixed grill with a fresh vegetable salad
  • Sicilian cannoli and seasonal fruits

Refined selection of local wines

Rosa's Taste Experience brings the wonderful products of her family business straight to your plate. As a starter, our Cesarina serves a cheese platter with a selection of various home-made jams. The selection of local cheeses includes the spicy Belice, three types of sheep's cheese (aged, piscacchio, and seasoned). There is also a Caprese salad of soft cheese and crushed green olives with traditional Sicilian seasoning. On the side are miniature foccaccia flatbreads with fresh ricotta.

As a first course, Rosa serves Pasta 'alla Norma' topped with salted sheep's milk ricotta, which is produced on her family farm. The tender eggplant and tomato sauce is met by the irresistably salty touch of the cheese, and is an absolute delight (in case you need it, the Italian way to ask for a second serving is 'bis'). For the second course, Rosa prepares a delicious array of grilled meats, accompanied by a fresh vegetable salad.

The fresh dairy products that make Rosa's Taste Experience so special also make an appearence in the dessert - Sicilian Cannoli. These crunchy tubes filled with sweet ricotta are a real treat, and are the perfect way to round off the evening.

Our customers says

"This was one our best experiences in Bologna. Our hosts, Gianni and Lorenza, were a well travelled and interesting couple about similar ages to ourselves. They also spoke perfect English, having lived in Canada for many years. Gianni taught us how to make tortellini from scratch which we ate with our meal. Gianni is a fine and the rest of the meal was excellent. Their place is an apartment in a medieval Palazzo which was well worth seeing on its own. We really enjoyed it."

"Our dinner with Angela was the best experience of our visit to Rome. The food was delicious, and it was delightful to talk with Angela and her Mother about food, life in Rome, work, and the state of the world in general. This experience would have been impossible for us without Le Cesarine."

"We had a wonderfull lunch time with Tania (30 minutes outside from Bologna). She was an excellent host and very charming. We enjoyed her traditional courses (antipasti, strozzapretti con salsiccia, brasato al limone) very much and could highly recommend her. The atmosphere was very relaxed and it was easy to drive to her. We would come again."
