Le Cesarine

Classic flavours that never get old

Locorotondo / puglia

La Cesarina

Anna Clelia’s house is in Locorotondo, where her large terrace looks out over the wonderful Itria Valley. This village, located in the Apulian hinterland, is small and pretty, full of white houses with pointed roofs. Locorotondo is in a strategic position,  just halfway to the Adriatic sea and the Ionian sea and the bucolic Apulian countryside.

«My family is really big and we have always considered lunch and dinner to be moments as almost sacred». For our Cesarina, welcoming new guests into her flat and serving them local treats is a real celebration of flavours!

The secret of the Cesarina
"What's my recipe for happiness? Enjoying Pugliese flavours on my sunny terrace with new friends."

  • Gratin of seasonal vegetables, cardoncelli mushrooms in olive oil
  • Spelt flour orechiette with green cabbage and smoked guanciale (pork cheek)
  • Roast leg of lamb with crispy roast potatoes
  • Julienne of carrots with puntarelle in lemon and olive oil
  • ‘Bocconotto’ with crème pâtissière, cherries and olive leaf liquor

Refined selection of local wines

"This Taste Experience is a celebration of the warm distinctive flavours of my region," explains our Cesarina, Anna Clelia, "these are my typical local dishes, adapted especially for the winter."
To begin the Taste Experience, Anna Clelia serves a rich and varied starter: seasonal vegetables ‘au gratin’ with cardoncelli mushrooms in olive oil.
The first course is an iconic Pugliese dish, handmade orecchiette pasta made with spelt flour, served with cabbage and delicious smoked ‘guanciale’ pork. For the second course, another feast of flavours; a leg of lamb with roast potatoes. Second course is served with a fresh side of julienne carrots and puntarelle in lemon and extra virgin olive oil.
To round off this celebration of Puglia’s flavours, Anna Clelia serves a ‘bocconotto’, a pastry with crème pâtissière and cherries, infused with olive leaf liquor.

Our customers says

"This was one our best experiences in Bologna. Our hosts, Gianni and Lorenza, were a well travelled and interesting couple about similar ages to ourselves. They also spoke perfect English, having lived in Canada for many years. Gianni taught us how to make tortellini from scratch which we ate with our meal. Gianni is a fine and the rest of the meal was excellent. Their place is an apartment in a medieval Palazzo which was well worth seeing on its own. We really enjoyed it."

J. Bliss

"Our dinner with Angela was the best experience of our visit to Rome. The food was delicious, and it was delightful to talk with Angela and her Mother about food, life in Rome, work, and the state of the world in general. This experience would have been impossible for us without Le Cesarine."

D. White

"We had a wonderfull lunch time with Tania (30 minutes outside from Bologna). She was an excellent host and very charming. We enjoyed her traditional courses (antipasti, strozzapretti con salsiccia, brasato al limone) very much and could highly recommend her. The atmosphere was very relaxed and it was easy to drive to her. We would come again."
