Le Cesarine

Dedicated to the scent of Roman cuisine

Roma / Lazio

La Cesarina

Margherita welcomes us into her home near the centre of Rome, where she lives with her family and children. She grew up in Trastevere in the heart of the capital, and now lives in a calmer residential area closer to the sea and Fiumicino airport. Her recipes reveal a rich history full of interesting personal anecdotes, most of which were learned from her mother and aunt, who continue to impart their wisdom to this day.

Margherita is constantly shaping and growing her love for Mediterranian cuisine, always on the lookout for new techniques and recipes, keeping the values passed down to her in the family alive.

The secret of the Cesarina
I couldn't live without vegetable, fish and meat stocks in my cooking.

  • Bruschetta with tomato, anchovy and roquette
  • Mini aubergine pizzas with mozzarella and basil sauce
  • Potato croquettes filled with mortadella
  • Fettuccine pasta 'alla papalina'
  • 'Piccatina' veal
  • Fresh salad
  • Papigno peaches with wine or ice cream

Refined selection of local wines

To begin this Taste Experience in Italy’s capital, Margherita serves a bruschetta, toasted bread topped with tomato, anchovy, rocket and a drizzle of olive oil. This is accompanied by a selection of miniature aubergine pizzas with stringy mozzarella and flavoursome basil. To complete the antipasto, we have melt-in-the-mouth potato croquettes filled with mortadella.

For the first course, Margherita opts for fettuccine ‘alla papalina’, handmade pasta ribbons in a cream, egg, onion, cured ham and Parmigiano cheese sauce. It’s a delicious variation of the classic carbonara. Next, we have ‘piccatina’, fillets of veal fried with a squeeze of lemon accompanied by a deliciate salad.

Margherita serves the juiciest Papigno peaches for dessert, accompanied by wine and fresh ice cream.

Cesarina's Reviews

Our customers says

"This was one our best experiences in Bologna. Our hosts, Gianni and Lorenza, were a well travelled and interesting couple about similar ages to ourselves. They also spoke perfect English, having lived in Canada for many years. Gianni taught us how to make tortellini from scratch which we ate with our meal. Gianni is a fine and the rest of the meal was excellent. Their place is an apartment in a medieval Palazzo which was well worth seeing on its own. We really enjoyed it."

"Our dinner with Angela was the best experience of our visit to Rome. The food was delicious, and it was delightful to talk with Angela and her Mother about food, life in Rome, work, and the state of the world in general. This experience would have been impossible for us without Le Cesarine."

"We had a wonderfull lunch time with Tania (30 minutes outside from Bologna). She was an excellent host and very charming. We enjoyed her traditional courses (antipasti, strozzapretti con salsiccia, brasato al limone) very much and could highly recommend her. The atmosphere was very relaxed and it was easy to drive to her. We would come again."
