Le Cesarine

Deeply Roman

Roma / Lazio

La Cesarina

Emanuela and Carlo live near Monte Sacro, the historical Roman hill, which stands alongside the Aniene river. Originally known as the garden city, the area preserves authentic Roman traditions, the same traditions which are cherished by Cesarini Emanuela and Carlo.

"To give a special touch to a simple tomato sauce, you just add a clove ..." this is just one of the many secrets that Carlo learned from his grandmother, on a Sunday many years ago; it is on this knowledge that these two Cesarini have based their culinary offerings. Our cesarini love to rediscover forgotten flavors and revive Roman holidays recipes.

The secret of the Cesarina
To give a special touch to a simple tomato sauce, just add a clove.

  • Anchovies marinated in wine and fennel
  • Gaeta olives
  • Rice with curly endive
  • Cuttlefish with peas from Roman gardens
  • Baby swiss chard sauteed with tomatoes and anchovies
  • Ricotta tart scented with Sambuca liqueur

Refined selection of local wines

At Emanuela and Carlo's table, the Taste Experience begins with Gaeta olives and anchovies marinated with white wine, vinegar and fennel seeds, accompanied by a delicious sage-infused wine.

At the end of the appetizer entrée comes Carlo's traditional family dish: rice with curly endives, a recipe that he learned from his grandmother. It's simple and authentic dish, made from onion, tomato and rice. The next entrée is cuttlefish with peas from Roman gardens.

The side dish highlights Emanuela's culinary skills: baby Swiss chard sautéed with anchovies, tomato, garlic and chili peppers. From her mother Renata, Emanuela also learned the cake recipe that perfectly ends this Culinary Experience: a ricotta tart scented with Sambuca liqueur. All dishes are accompanied by the great wine, Est Est Est of Montefiascone.

Our customers says

"This was one our best experiences in Bologna. Our hosts, Gianni and Lorenza, were a well travelled and interesting couple about similar ages to ourselves. They also spoke perfect English, having lived in Canada for many years. Gianni taught us how to make tortellini from scratch which we ate with our meal. Gianni is a fine and the rest of the meal was excellent. Their place is an apartment in a medieval Palazzo which was well worth seeing on its own. We really enjoyed it."

"Our dinner with Angela was the best experience of our visit to Rome. The food was delicious, and it was delightful to talk with Angela and her Mother about food, life in Rome, work, and the state of the world in general. This experience would have been impossible for us without Le Cesarine."

"We had a wonderfull lunch time with Tania (30 minutes outside from Bologna). She was an excellent host and very charming. We enjoyed her traditional courses (antipasti, strozzapretti con salsiccia, brasato al limone) very much and could highly recommend her. The atmosphere was very relaxed and it was easy to drive to her. We would come again."
