Le Cesarine

Fine art and fine dining

Dozza Imolese / Emilia-Romagna

La Cesarina

Dozza Imolese is a lovely medieval village located in the Appenine hills, with a long and fascinating history, fabulous landscapes and a singular characteristic: most of its houses' walls are decorated with beautiful murales. This is the result of the first edition of the 'Biennale del Muro Dipinto - (Biennale of the Painted Wall)', an initiative born in 1960. Since then, Dozza has filled up with colorful paintings.

In this enchanted setting, our Cesarina Maria spends her free time cooking up local treats: «I love having guests and teaching them the secrets of traditional dishes. I don't like the fact that tourists think that the tagliatelle with ragù they’ve tried at the restaurants is the real deal».

Refined selection of local wines

For this Taste Experience, Maria draws inspiration from the murals on the walls of her village, which is famous all over Italy for the art that lines its streets. Many of these murals represent dinner tables and food, allowing usto retrace the local cuisine’s history . Our Cesarina serves some delicious biscuits made with parmesan and Dozza ham, and squacquerone on the side, a creamy cheese typical to the region.

For the main course, we have red garganelli, a traditional pasta that Maria enriches with some vegetable and crispy ham ragù. The second course is a rustic dish with humble origins, an exquisite pork 'alla cacciatora' with roast potatoes on the side.

To finish, Maria opts for an unexpected flavour combination, ’zabaione’ ice cream with a hint of traditional balsamic vinegar. It’s the perfect way to round off the Taste Experience.

Our customers says

"This was one our best experiences in Bologna. Our hosts, Gianni and Lorenza, were a well travelled and interesting couple about similar ages to ourselves. They also spoke perfect English, having lived in Canada for many years. Gianni taught us how to make tortellini from scratch which we ate with our meal. Gianni is a fine and the rest of the meal was excellent. Their place is an apartment in a medieval Palazzo which was well worth seeing on its own. We really enjoyed it."

"Our dinner with Angela was the best experience of our visit to Rome. The food was delicious, and it was delightful to talk with Angela and her Mother about food, life in Rome, work, and the state of the world in general. This experience would have been impossible for us without Le Cesarine."

"We had a wonderfull lunch time with Tania (30 minutes outside from Bologna). She was an excellent host and very charming. We enjoyed her traditional courses (antipasti, strozzapretti con salsiccia, brasato al limone) very much and could highly recommend her. The atmosphere was very relaxed and it was easy to drive to her. We would come again."
