Le Cesarine

Inside the Laguna’s timeless poetry

Lido di Venezia / Veneto

La Cesarina

Patrizia’s Venice is one to be discovered. Aside from her apartment right in the centre of la Serenissima, in fact, our Cesarina also owns an apartment on Venice’s Lido. Its poetry may be different from the typical imagery of the city of canals, however it is equally fascinating.

Giudecca and San Marco are in the background, together with the many little islands which decorate the Laguna’s landscape. Here, just few steps away from open sea, we find the real maritime soul of these lands.

The same that was able to create, over centuries, a culinary heritage of delicious typical dishes, often enriched with flavours from faraway lands.

The secret of the Cesarina
My family is originally from Tuscany and Piedmont, but my heart is all for Venice’s canals.

Refined selection of local wines

Description

Patrizia guides us in the discovery of the Laguna’s flavours. The flavours are intense and unforgettable, as we can see from the starters. Our Cesarina relies on a great classic of the Venetian tradition: sardines in saor, which means served with caramellised 'sweet and sour' onions. A meeting of refined flavors, ideal for beginning this culinary Experience in the best of ways.

These flavour notes accompany us in the first course too since 'bigoli' in sauce are brought to the table, in a typical recipe which combines bigoli a pasta similar to thick spaghetti, served with a simple but intensely flavoured sauce of anchovies and onions. As a second dish, Patrizia offers us sea bream 'alla malamocchina' with cherry tomatoes. The fish is stuffed with carrots, basil, garlic and a squeeze of lemon. And to further enrich this already refined dish, Patrizia also serves us 'drunk potatoes' cooked in white wine, the perfect side dish for fish dishes.

Last but not least, another great classic of Venetian cuisine. For dessert, our Cesarina serves us 'baicoli al vino bianco', a biscuit which dates back to the period of the maritime republic of la Serenissima.

Cesarina's Reviews

I will never be able to eat Italian restaurant food ever again , no Italian food I have ever had has ever come close to Patrizia's food , so delicious , no words can describe it. Patrizia and Adriano welcomed us into their home and then had us laughing the whole night ! Patrizia is a riot and Adriano plays off her , I feel so lucky for having had them as our hosts. They will forever hold a place in my heart. I cannot express how fortunate I feel to have had such a unique dining experience , thank you Le Cesarine!

We were 4 people and we had a lovely evening. Patrizia had clearly put a lot of effort into the meal and it was delicious. The courses, such as the sardines with onions and the pasta, both of which were fabulous, were foods we had known were typical of the region but had not had in any restaurant. The setting was just wonderful - a terrace outside their apartment from which we could see much of the city - a really unique experience. Patricia and Adriano had also invited a friend of theirs, Eliana (I probably have the spelling wrong), a lovely young woman who spoke good English so even though their own English was somewhat halting we were able to have conversations that were interesting and fun. One amusing note: we had a very hard time finding their address and actually went into a carbineiri station for help as our phone did not work. The officer googled the address and we were able to find it. When we arrived only Adriano was there and we were a little concerned. The women arrived within a few minutes and it turned out that they were out looking for us. They actually saw us in the nearby square but were unsure that it was us. So we all had a good laugh about that. In all, it was a very nice experience and since we were all flying home the next day it was a fine way to end our vacation.

"This was one our best experiences in Bologna. Our hosts, Gianni and Lorenza, were a well travelled and interesting couple about similar ages to ourselves. They also spoke perfect English, having lived in Canada for many years. Gianni taught us how to make tortellini from scratch which we ate with our meal. Gianni is a fine and the rest of the meal was excellent. Their place is an apartment in a medieval Palazzo which was well worth seeing on its own. We really enjoyed it."

"Our dinner with Angela was the best experience of our visit to Rome. The food was delicious, and it was delightful to talk with Angela and her Mother about food, life in Rome, work, and the state of the world in general. This experience would have been impossible for us without Le Cesarine."

"We had a wonderfull lunch time with Tania (30 minutes outside from Bologna). She was an excellent host and very charming. We enjoyed her traditional courses (antipasti, strozzapretti con salsiccia, brasato al limone) very much and could highly recommend her. The atmosphere was very relaxed and it was easy to drive to her. We would come again."
