Le Cesarine

Luigi's menu

Loro Piceno / Marche

La Cesarina

Loro Piceno is a small town in the province of Macerata located on top of a hill. The historical center has remained for the most part intact; Brunforte castle, situated in the highest area of the land, is one impressive testimony to the story of the land.

Loro Piceno is the home of "vin cotto." In the noble buildings that line the charming streets of the historic center, over the centuries a unique type of architecture has developed for the pressing of grapes and the boiling of must in massive copper kettles, situated in special brick structures.

Against the backdrop of the lovely Marche hills, in this setting rich in history and enogastronomic tradition, Luigi offers us several of the most traditional plates of his land.

The secret of the Cesarina
Loro Piceno is the home of "vin cotto," a fortified wine obtained by boiling the must of Marche grapes.

Luigi offers a fantastic Taste Experience to pay homage to the rich flavors of the Marche; against the backdrop of the lovely hills of Loro. It begins with an appetizer of the most famous specialties of the Marche: stuffed olives, ciauscolo, and crostini with mulled wine sausage. For the first course, homemade tagliatelle with truffle, a prized ingredient in central Italy. We continue with a sumptuous second course: a roast with cream, accompanied by a flavorful chicory puree.

To end on a sweet note, yet still in the true tradition of the Marche, classic biscotti: sweet almond cookies baked whole in the oven, then cut and toasted until crispy, which are delicious when dipped in traditional mulled wine. For those of you with a sweet tooth, there's also a delicious ricotta pie and a surprise mousse.

Our customers says

"This was one our best experiences in Bologna. Our hosts, Gianni and Lorenza, were a well travelled and interesting couple about similar ages to ourselves. They also spoke perfect English, having lived in Canada for many years. Gianni taught us how to make tortellini from scratch which we ate with our meal. Gianni is a fine and the rest of the meal was excellent. Their place is an apartment in a medieval Palazzo which was well worth seeing on its own. We really enjoyed it."

"Our dinner with Angela was the best experience of our visit to Rome. The food was delicious, and it was delightful to talk with Angela and her Mother about food, life in Rome, work, and the state of the world in general. This experience would have been impossible for us without Le Cesarine."

"We had a wonderfull lunch time with Tania (30 minutes outside from Bologna). She was an excellent host and very charming. We enjoyed her traditional courses (antipasti, strozzapretti con salsiccia, brasato al limone) very much and could highly recommend her. The atmosphere was very relaxed and it was easy to drive to her. We would come again."
