Le Cesarine

Once upon a time... Flavors of Rome's history

Roma / Lazio

La Cesarina

Stendhal's Roman Tales gives us the stories of the events tied to the mysterious charm of the Orsini family, one of the oldest of Roman nobility; equally shrouded in an evocative auro is the Palazzo Orsini, home to the splendid house of our Cesarina Hilary overlooking Campo de' Fiori.

Legend tells that the piazza owes its name to Flora, a woman beloved by Pompey, who wished to build close to his theater. It is on this ancient stage of Pompey that Hilary, a dancer by trade, prepares her private dinners, offering guests exquisite dishes evocative of ancient Rome, under the banner of joy and good cheer.

The secret of the Cesarina

In my house, which overlooks Campo de' Fiori,I love to share the pleasures of conviviality

  • Delicious countryside appetizers
  • fresh pasta strips with flowering courgettes, squash, mint and pecorino romano
  • 'Bollito alla Picchiapò' ('Picchiapò style' slow-cooked beef in a tomato, basil and onion sauce)
  • Fresh seasonal salad with roquette and walnuts
  • Sweet ricotta with roast pears and chestnut honey

Refined selection of local wines

Hilary hosts an intense Taste Experience. She begins with an appetising countryside starter, before bringing out her delicious first course; strips of freshly-made pasta with flowering courgettes, squash, mint and Pecorino cheese. All vegetables are sourced from the nearby Campo de' Fiori market, and their flavors work perfectly with the iconic Pecorino cheese, which is a staple of Roman cuisine.

Next on the menu is a hot plate of 'bollito alla Picchiapò', slow-cooked beef with a delicate tomato sauce. On the side, Hilary serves up an invitingly fresh seasonal salad, topped with roquette and walnuts. This opulent showcase of traditional Roman cuisine is not one to be forgotten, and Hilary makes sure to give a memorable finish to her evening with a sumptuous ricotta dessert, accompanied by roast pears and chestnut honey.

Our customers says

"This was one our best experiences in Bologna. Our hosts, Gianni and Lorenza, were a well travelled and interesting couple about similar ages to ourselves. They also spoke perfect English, having lived in Canada for many years. Gianni taught us how to make tortellini from scratch which we ate with our meal. Gianni is a fine and the rest of the meal was excellent. Their place is an apartment in a medieval Palazzo which was well worth seeing on its own. We really enjoyed it."

"Our dinner with Angela was the best experience of our visit to Rome. The food was delicious, and it was delightful to talk with Angela and her Mother about food, life in Rome, work, and the state of the world in general. This experience would have been impossible for us without Le Cesarine."

"We had a wonderfull lunch time with Tania (30 minutes outside from Bologna). She was an excellent host and very charming. We enjoyed her traditional courses (antipasti, strozzapretti con salsiccia, brasato al limone) very much and could highly recommend her. The atmosphere was very relaxed and it was easy to drive to her. We would come again."
