La Cesarina

Florence, one of the world’s most enchanting cities, an icon of art and culture. This is where our Cesarina Giulia welcomes us into her home. Giulia is originally from the northern region of Liguria, but has been living in Florence for many years.
Giulia has been a passionate cook since she was a young girl, from her university days, when she opened a little locale to serve up a taste of traditional cuisine, before gaining further experience in the catering and creative cooking world. Our Cesarina has fallen in love with Florence’s cuines, with its simple but flavoursome dishes rooted in popular cuisine. Giulia welcomes us into her beautiful home, complete with a charming terrace that looks out over the church of Saint Ambrogio.

The secret of the Cesarina

"I love enjoying traditional Tuscan dishes on my terrace, surrounded by the beautiful sights of Florence's centre"

Panzanella croccante
Tuscan legume soup
Peposo alla fornacina (beef stew)
Garden salad
Mascarpone cream with Vin Santo-soaked Cantucci biscuits

Refined selection of local wines

Cesarina Giulia’s menu begins with a humble and delicious Tuscan dish, panzanella croccante, a recipe which was orgininally created to make use of stale bread, combining it with delicate preparation and flavoursome vegetables for a sumptuous antipasto.

Next, we have a legume soup, a classic preparation from the region’s deeply-rooted farming tradition. For the second course, Giulia serves ‘Peposa alla fornacina’, a dish that dates back to the times of Brunelleschi in the 1300s. This rich beef stew is made with red wine and pepper, and is served with fresh garden salad.

To finish, Giulia serves a typical dessert: mascarpone cream with Cantucci biscuits in Vin Santo.

Our customers says

"This was one our best experiences in Bologna. Our hosts, Gianni and Lorenza, were a well travelled and interesting couple about similar ages to ourselves. They also spoke perfect English, having lived in Canada for many years. Gianni taught us how to make tortellini from scratch which we ate with our meal. Gianni is a fine and the rest of the meal was excellent. Their place is an apartment in a medieval Palazzo which was well worth seeing on its own. We really enjoyed it."

J. Bliss

"Our dinner with Angela was the best experience of our visit to Rome. The food was delicious, and it was delightful to talk with Angela and her Mother about food, life in Rome, work, and the state of the world in general. This experience would have been impossible for us without Le Cesarine."

"We had a wonderfull lunch time with Tania (30 minutes outside from Bologna). She was an excellent host and very charming. We enjoyed her traditional courses (antipasti, strozzapretti con salsiccia, brasato al limone) very much and could highly recommend her. The atmosphere was very relaxed and it was easy to drive to her. We would come again."
