Le Cesarine

Searching for authentic flavours in the hills of Genova

Genova / Liguria

La Cesarina

Our Cesarina Francesca lives in a cosy modern building situated in the hills of Albaro, a residential neighborhood in Genova. This area, until 19th Century, was full of vegetable gardens, which were really important for supplying the city’s port, which is nearby.

Francesca's home is modern and full of light. Our Cesarina takes great care of the decorations of her dinner table: traditional tablecloths and fresh-cut flowers from her own garden are always present. A perfect setting for a perfect cuisine!

The secret of the Cesarina

Menu

  • Panissa (chickpea fritters), anchovies and onion foccacia
  • Cream of chickpeas in a "zimino" reduction
  • Stockfish stew
  • Ligurian-stye radicchio with tomatoes and potatoes

Refined selection of local wines

Description

This amazing Taste Experience in Liguria begins with a rich antipasto. Francesca serves a typical 'Panissa condita’, delicate polenta made with chickpea flour, served with anchovies in oil and, to complete this fantastic entrée, a tasty onion focaccia.

Continuing this tour of the region's traditional flavors, our Cesarina moves straight to the second course with her delicious 'stocche accomodou' - stewed stockfish (dead fish era un po’ lugubre!! hahaha) - and Ligurian radicchio with tomatoes and potatoes on the side.

To conclude, a truly delicate dessert: a sweet pumpkin cake, which is stunning in terms of both looks and taste!

Our customers says

"This was one our best experiences in Bologna. Our hosts, Gianni and Lorenza, were a well travelled and interesting couple about similar ages to ourselves. They also spoke perfect English, having lived in Canada for many years. Gianni taught us how to make tortellini from scratch which we ate with our meal. Gianni is a fine and the rest of the meal was excellent. Their place is an apartment in a medieval Palazzo which was well worth seeing on its own. We really enjoyed it."

J. Bliss

"Our dinner with Angela was the best experience of our visit to Rome. The food was delicious, and it was delightful to talk with Angela and her Mother about food, life in Rome, work, and the state of the world in general. This experience would have been impossible for us without Le Cesarine."

D. White

"We had a wonderfull lunch time with Tania (30 minutes outside from Bologna). She was an excellent host and very charming. We enjoyed her traditional courses (antipasti, strozzapretti con salsiccia, brasato al limone) very much and could highly recommend her. The atmosphere was very relaxed and it was easy to drive to her. We would come again."
