Le Cesarine

The Magic of Piedmont Cuisine

Avigliana / Piemonte

La Cesarina

Avigliana is a small town 25 kilometers from Turin immersed in a breathtaking landscape. Surrounded by mountains, its urban core actually lies on the banks of homonymous lakes. It is a natural oasis on the outskirts of the regional capital. Not far away, one can also see the Sacra di San Michele, an imposing and beautiful medieval abbey - a source of inspiration for the novel "The Name of the Rose" by Nobel Prize laureate, Umberto Eco.

Sergio welcomes us in this beautiful setting, ready to embark on a discovery tour of the local cuisine. In fact, his menu draws on classical Piedmont tradition, dominated by intense and delicious tastes, combining simple but flavorful recipes with noble and delectable dishes.

The secret of the Cesarina
I put all my love for this land into my dishes

  • Vegetable pie (Jerusalem artichokes in winter or peppers in summer) with anchovy and garlic sause
  • Pumpkin risotto with melted cheese of Raschera
  • Braised beef with Nebbiolo wine
  • Carrots cooked in butter
  • Bonet (home made pudding made with amaretti biscuits and chocolate)

Refined selection of local wines

Sergio's Taste Experience is entirely dedicated to the flavors of the beautiful city of Avigliana. It begins with the starter, a vegetable pie, whose ingredients vary by season. In the winter, our Cesarino prepares it with Jerusalem artichoke, a tuber with a delicate but intense taste; in Summer, with vibrantly colourful peppers. Then we have a symbolic plate of Piedmont cuisine: Bagna Cauda, a savory sauce with a base of anchovies and garlic.

For the first course, Sergio serves a pumpkin risotto with Raschera fondue, a typical cheese that is added in chunks alongside leaves of marjoram. To follow, delicious buttered carrots are the side dish of another plate characteristic of the region, Nebbiolo-braised beef. The beef is marinated in vegetables and red wine, and is then ready to be browned, for a final result that is truly tender.

Finally, for dessert Sergio offers Bonet, an artisanal amaretti and chocolate pudding, a dessert representing the best of this region's culinary tradition.

Our customers says

"This was one our best experiences in Bologna. Our hosts, Gianni and Lorenza, were a well travelled and interesting couple about similar ages to ourselves. They also spoke perfect English, having lived in Canada for many years. Gianni taught us how to make tortellini from scratch which we ate with our meal. Gianni is a fine and the rest of the meal was excellent. Their place is an apartment in a medieval Palazzo which was well worth seeing on its own. We really enjoyed it."

"Our dinner with Angela was the best experience of our visit to Rome. The food was delicious, and it was delightful to talk with Angela and her Mother about food, life in Rome, work, and the state of the world in general. This experience would have been impossible for us without Le Cesarine."

"We had a wonderfull lunch time with Tania (30 minutes outside from Bologna). She was an excellent host and very charming. We enjoyed her traditional courses (antipasti, strozzapretti con salsiccia, brasato al limone) very much and could highly recommend her. The atmosphere was very relaxed and it was easy to drive to her. We would come again."
