Le Cesarine

The love of cooking, a life-long story

Bussolengo / Veneto

La Cesarina

Starting from Verona, following narrow streets that flow through the fields, crossing pretty villages, we arrive at Bussolengo, the city where Maria Grazia lives with her family.

Born in Umbria, our Cesarina has lived in Milan for a long time and for two years in the United States; today she welcomes us in her spacious, eclectic and whimsical home, complete with a lush garden. The culinary tradition handed down, generation to generation, is that of the Veneto region, and the ingredients strictly originate from her garden; so do the olives, jams, soups, eggplants and mushrooms marinated in oil that add an authentic flavor to her dishes, paying tribute to the traditional cuisine of Verona.

The secret of the Cesarina
The produce from my garden provides a unique and authentic flavor for my dishes

  • Local cold cuts - Verona soppressa and rolled bacon - with grilled polenta slices
  • Risotto with radicchio from Verona and tastasale
  • Turkey with Valpolicella wine
  • Sautéed baby chicory or wild radicchio
  • Verona shortbread with jam or with nutella

Refined selection of local wines

Let's walk the path to flavors of the Verona culinary tradition together with Maria Grazia: to start, a selection of local cold cuts, the Verona 'soppressa' salami and rolled pancetta bacon, with the unmistakable taste of artisanal products, accompanied by grilled slices of polenta.

As a first course, risotto with radicchio from Verona and 'tastasale', a tasty mixture of pork meat with black pepper. As a second course, our Cesarina serves turkey with Valpolicella wine, which flavours the turkey wonderfully, accompanied by sautéed baby chicory or wild radicchio. The meal ends on a sweet note with two dishes that have become part of Maria's family tradition: Verona shortbread with jam or with nutella.

Our customers says

"This was one our best experiences in Bologna. Our hosts, Gianni and Lorenza, were a well travelled and interesting couple about similar ages to ourselves. They also spoke perfect English, having lived in Canada for many years. Gianni taught us how to make tortellini from scratch which we ate with our meal. Gianni is a fine and the rest of the meal was excellent. Their place is an apartment in a medieval Palazzo which was well worth seeing on its own. We really enjoyed it."

J. Bliss

"Our dinner with Angela was the best experience of our visit to Rome. The food was delicious, and it was delightful to talk with Angela and her Mother about food, life in Rome, work, and the state of the world in general. This experience would have been impossible for us without Le Cesarine."

"We had a wonderfull lunch time with Tania (30 minutes outside from Bologna). She was an excellent host and very charming. We enjoyed her traditional courses (antipasti, strozzapretti con salsiccia, brasato al limone) very much and could highly recommend her. The atmosphere was very relaxed and it was easy to drive to her. We would come again."
