Le Cesarine

The unique flavours of Sicily

Taormina, / Sicilia

La Cesarina

Sara welcomes us into her home in Taormina, a jewel in Sicily’s crown famous for its stunning countryside and fascinating history and archaeology, not to mention its cuisine! This region represents the meeting of cultures, resulting in a mixture of traditions that can be tasted in its traditional dishes. Discovering Taormina and Sicily is a joy both for the heart and the palate!

Sara’s dedication to Sicilian cuisine is the result of a lifetime of enjoying her local cuisine, leaving her with many recipes passed down through the generations of her family. “You can discover so much about Sicily’s history through its traditional food”, she explains, “there have been so many influences on the island over the years; Greek, Roman, Arab, Norman, Swabian, Aragon… And each one left its own unique imprint on the architecture, culture and even on the dialects we use today.”

The secret of the Cesarina
"Sicily's very essence is hidden in its vast variety of traditional dishes, a melting-pot of many cultures."

  • Caponata
  • Maccheroni pasta with pork ragù
  • Meatballs with lemon leaves
  • Roast vegetables
  • Sicilian cannoli

Refined selection of local wines

Sara’s taste experience begins with a typical Sicilian dish, the delicious ‘caponata’, a starter that showcases the best of traditional mediterranean ingredients: aubergines, tomatoes, celery, onions, olives and capers are served in a ‘sweet and sour’ sauce.

For the first course, we have Sicilian maccheroni pasta in a pork ragù sauce. The second course makes use of the area’s fresh and fragrant citrus fruits, meatballs served with lemon leaves. This is accompanied by roast vegetables.

You can’t say you’ve visited Sicily until you’ve tried a cannolo, and Sara knows this well… To finish, she prepares Sicilian cannoli, one of the island’s most iconic desserts, filled with sweet and creamy ricotta. Delicious!

Our customers says

"This was one our best experiences in Bologna. Our hosts, Gianni and Lorenza, were a well travelled and interesting couple about similar ages to ourselves. They also spoke perfect English, having lived in Canada for many years. Gianni taught us how to make tortellini from scratch which we ate with our meal. Gianni is a fine and the rest of the meal was excellent. Their place is an apartment in a medieval Palazzo which was well worth seeing on its own. We really enjoyed it."

"Our dinner with Angela was the best experience of our visit to Rome. The food was delicious, and it was delightful to talk with Angela and her Mother about food, life in Rome, work, and the state of the world in general. This experience would have been impossible for us without Le Cesarine."

"We had a wonderfull lunch time with Tania (30 minutes outside from Bologna). She was an excellent host and very charming. We enjoyed her traditional courses (antipasti, strozzapretti con salsiccia, brasato al limone) very much and could highly recommend her. The atmosphere was very relaxed and it was easy to drive to her. We would come again."
