Le Cesarine

The wonders of Florence

Firenze / Toscana

La Cesarina

Florence, one of the world’s most enchanting cities, an icon of art and culture. This is where our Cesarina Giulia welcomes us into her home. Giulia is originally from the northern region of Liguria, but has been living in Florence for many years.
Giulia has been a passionate cook since she was a young girl, from her university days, when she opened a little locale to serve up a taste of traditional cuisine, before gaining further experience in the catering and creative cooking world. Our Cesarina has fallen in love with Florence’s cuines, with its simple but flavoursome dishes rooted in popular cuisine. Giulia welcomes us into her beautiful home, complete with a charming terrace that looks out over the church of Saint Ambrogio.

The secret of the Cesarina

"I love enjoying traditional Tuscan dishes on my terrace, surrounded by the beautiful sights of Florence's centre"

A crostini selection, with cavolo nero and chicken livers
Bean and spelt soup
Roast pork 'lardellata' with garden herbs
Sautéed field greens with roast potatoes and pancetta
Mascarpone cream with Vin Santo-soaked Cantucci biscuits

Refined selection of local wines

Cesarina Giulia offers an experience of the very roots of Florence’s culinary tradition. Her menu opens with one of Tuscany’s classic antipasti, toasted bread (crostini) topped with chicken livers, which is accompanied by crostini topped with cavolo nero.

Next, we have a first course that brings together the humble and flavoursome ingredients of the ‘cucina povera’, a hearty spelt and bean soup, that is a delight for all seasons. For the second course, we have another of Tuscany’s iconic delicacies, roast rork loin rolled in ‘lardellata’, pork rind, which results in a crispy outer layer that reveals perfectly tender pork inside - simply delicious. This is accompanied by a side of field greens sautéed in garlic and chili, and a platter of roast potatoes with onion and pancetta.

To round off the experience, a sweet taste of Tuscany. Giulia prepares a delicate mascarpone cream with Cantucci biscuits soaked in Vin Santo wine.

Our customers says

"This was one our best experiences in Bologna. Our hosts, Gianni and Lorenza, were a well travelled and interesting couple about similar ages to ourselves. They also spoke perfect English, having lived in Canada for many years. Gianni taught us how to make tortellini from scratch which we ate with our meal. Gianni is a fine and the rest of the meal was excellent. Their place is an apartment in a medieval Palazzo which was well worth seeing on its own. We really enjoyed it."

J. Bliss

"Our dinner with Angela was the best experience of our visit to Rome. The food was delicious, and it was delightful to talk with Angela and her Mother about food, life in Rome, work, and the state of the world in general. This experience would have been impossible for us without Le Cesarine."

"We had a wonderfull lunch time with Tania (30 minutes outside from Bologna). She was an excellent host and very charming. We enjoyed her traditional courses (antipasti, strozzapretti con salsiccia, brasato al limone) very much and could highly recommend her. The atmosphere was very relaxed and it was easy to drive to her. We would come again."
