Le Cesarine

Summer at the Bolognese table

Bologna / Emilia-Romagna

La Cesarina

You can find your way to Rosa’s delightful home through the colourful, winding streets of Bologna’s historical centre. Make sure you take the time to admire the ancient buildings and porticoes unique to this stunning city! Rosa’s apartment is just off the main shopping street, Via dell’Indipendenza, just a stone’s throw away from Piazza Maggiore and the Due Torri.

Rosa is a lawyer by profession, and fills her spare time with sport and cooking. She’s lived in the city for over 45 years, and is passionate about the area’s culinary traditions. “I took a great cooking course where I learned to make fresh pasta and iconic Bolognese dishes.”

The secret of the Cesarina
I love cooking and hosting guests: my house is always a welcoming space for everyone, and my table is refined and elegant in style.

  • Little piadinas with Parmigiano Reggiano and mortadella
  • Tortelloni stuffed with ricotta and spinach, served in sage butter
  • Meatballs with peas
  • Crema gelato with Fabbri cherries

Refined selection of local wines

Rosa’s experience provides a real Bologna-style welcome! In her lovely apartment right in the city centre, our Cesarina serves a lovely traditional starter of piadine, local flatbreads filled with Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and Bologna’s trademark ham, mortadella.

For the first course, Rosa serves Bologna’s famous ‘tortelloni’, pasta parcels stuffed with spinach and ricotta cheese, served in sage butter as per the local tradition. Next, she serves meatballs with a side dish of fresh garden peas, a perfect accompaniment for those hot summer days.

What could be a better way to finish than home made gelato? Rosa treats you to a wonderful ‘crema’ gelato enriched with Fabbri sour cherries.

Cesarina's Reviews

Rosa is a very fun character and we felt welcome in her home straight away. Her warm personality made the dinner very enjoyable and we chatted about lots of interesting things. Also, her bathroom looks out over a secret hidden canal...!! We’d love to come back to Bologna. Grazie Le Cesarine.

Our customers says

"This was one our best experiences in Bologna. Our hosts, Gianni and Lorenza, were a well travelled and interesting couple about similar ages to ourselves. They also spoke perfect English, having lived in Canada for many years. Gianni taught us how to make tortellini from scratch which we ate with our meal. Gianni is a fine and the rest of the meal was excellent. Their place is an apartment in a medieval Palazzo which was well worth seeing on its own. We really enjoyed it."

"Our dinner with Angela was the best experience of our visit to Rome. The food was delicious, and it was delightful to talk with Angela and her Mother about food, life in Rome, work, and the state of the world in general. This experience would have been impossible for us without Le Cesarine."

"We had a wonderfull lunch time with Tania (30 minutes outside from Bologna). She was an excellent host and very charming. We enjoyed her traditional courses (antipasti, strozzapretti con salsiccia, brasato al limone) very much and could highly recommend her. The atmosphere was very relaxed and it was easy to drive to her. We would come again."
